San Francisco has caught more interceptions (22) than they have let up passing touchdowns (20). They’ve also allowed the third-fewest rushing yards this season. Betting on the San Francisco 49ers to cover will require them to beat the Packers by 10 or more points.

Wrapping up the four-game docket on CBS this Sunday at 6:30 PM is a rematch of the 2021-22 Divisional Round game that KC won by a final score of 42-36. The Bills have owned Kansas City during the regular season under Josh Allen’s tenure, but he is 0-2 against Mahomes in the playoffs.

This time, Buffalo gets to host the game, but they aren’t even garnering a full three points. That means oddsmakers aren’t confident in the Bills’ ability to overcome the Chiefs, and neither are we.

• New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been lost for the season due to a torn Achilles tendon in his right ankle. Zack Wilson will be the Jets starting QB going forth.
• Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa threw for the fourth-most passing yards for a Week 1 game during the Super Bowl era. Tua posted the following stat line on Sunday against the LA Chargers: 28-45, 466 Yards, 3 Touchdowns, 1 interception.
• The Cincinnati Bengals only put three points on the board against the Cleveland Browns, placing their ability to routinely score in jeopardy. It is their worst scoring output since October 11th, 2020, when they only managed a field goal against the Baltimore Ravens. Is it time to panic in Cincinnati? Yes.
• Only six AFC teams won a game during the first weekend of action.

The Falcons have a decent shot at winning the NFC South this division. They’ve improved on offense and look to take advantage of a division that was presumed to be in a weakened state entering this season. If Desmond Ritter can play well, the Falcons have a great shot at making the postseason.

Atlanta took care of business against the Carolina Panthers last weekend, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints also won their first games. GB vs. ATL will be a test for both teams, but after seeing what Love can do, we’re betting on the Packers to cover.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Jacksonville Jaguars

KC vs. the Jags is another assessment game to see where these two AFC contenders stand. The usually pathetic Jaguars are poised for a division crown this season, and they’ve delivered on those beliefs by winning their Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts 31-21.

The Chiefs dropped their opening Thursday night game to the Detroit Lions and now look to re-establish dominance in the AFC with a win over Jacksonville.

We’re hesitant to do so, but most of our staff is betting on the Chiefs to cover this Sunday.

Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers

This week, there are two Monday Night Football games. The first is the Browns vs. Steelers, where Cleveland is favored to win on the road. We were a lot more confident in the Steelers Kenny Pickett entering the season than we are right now.

Now that we’ve seen Kenny face a top defense (San Francisco 49ers), our staff doubts his capabilities against another superior unit. Look for the Browns to cover and win, climbing to an early 2-0 AFC North division lead.

The Chiefs began the year as a preseason favorite to win the Super Bowl after last season’s disappointing defeat at home to the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game.  Super Bowl 4 was the last time that Kansas City advanced to the title game, and it was also the Chiefs’ last Super Bowl win.

The 49ers were not on anyone’s championship radar at the start of the season and were picked to finish third in the NFC West by some publications.  Head Coach Kyle Shanahan has exceeded all expectations and is ahead of schedule for a 49ers Super Bowl victory. 

This marks the 7^th appearance in the Super Bowl for the 49ers.  San Francisco is attempting to win their 6^th title, which will tie them for the franchise lead with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl chances rest primarily on the shoulders of quarterback and former league MVP, Patrick Mahomes.  In both playoff games this year, he has helped the Chiefs overcome large early deficits with his explosive arm strength.  

The most interesting matchup will be the 49ers offense vs. the Kansas City defense.  If the Chiefs cannot stop the running game of the 49ers, then it could result in a shootout with Kansas City struggling to keep pace.

Super Bowl 54 Odds

The current Super Bowl betting line at Bovada Sportsbook has the Chiefs favored by 1.5 points, so a bet on Kansas City means that they will have to defeat the 49ers by 2 points or more for you to win.

Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and the New England Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 13-3 in a defensive slugfest to win Super Bowl 53, capturing their sixth title in franchise history—tying the Pittsburgh Steelers for most all-time. Additionally, Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was named Most Valuable Player for Super Bowl 53.

After the game, Bovada posted the Patriots and Rams as the odds on favorites to win Super Bowl 54 in 2020 and listed both teams at +700, meaning a $100 would win $700.

In the hours following the results of Super Bowl 53, the Patriots became the clear favorite (+650) after betting action was allowed on the odds to win the Super Bowl at the end of the NFL’s 100th season.

The AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers opened tied for 2nd place at +800 while the New Orleans Saints (+1000), Indianapolis Colts (+1000), and Chicago Bears (+1300) also were given high odds to win it all next year. The Colts currently sit at +1100, falling down a bit from the opening odds, and the Bears rose to +1200 during that time.

Possible Super Bowl 53 Gatorade Showers

If the Rams win: Last week, running back Todd Gurley answered a Twitter user’s question of “What is the preferred Gatorade on the sidelines?”

Gurley responded with “Ice Punch” and as you can see in the picture below, so that would be a clear Gatorade poured on coach Sean McVay—which is currently the favorite.

If the Patriots win: There really isn’t a lot of information to go on when it comes to what color the Patriots will pour on coach Bill Belichick if he wins.

Of his five Super Bowl victories, he’s only received the shower twice (clear in SB39 and blue in SB49), so it’s likely he dodges it again.

Considering clear is one of the two and was what Gurley said was the preferred Gatorade choice of the Rams, it makes sense why it is the favorite to be poured on the winning coach of Super Bowl LIII.

When converting the implied probability of those odds, it comes out to Yes (2%) and No (98%), but hey, at least it’s not 1%, right?

For those of you wondering why this lawyer is suing the NFL and the commissioner, here’s a quick summary:

During last Sunday’s NFC Championship between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints, there was a blatant pass interference penalty by Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman on Saints receiver Tommylee Lewis that was not called by the officials near the end of the game. Have a look for yourself.

Pretty obvious, right? Well, not to these officials. The Saints had to settle for a field goal with just under two minutes left, which allowed the Rams to come back and tie the game, send it to overtime where they would win and advance to Super Bowl LIII.

As a result, on Tuesday, Saints season ticket holders Tommy Badeaux and Candis Lambert hired Louisiana attorney Frank D’Amico Jr., who is a personal injury lawyer, to file a lawsuit against the National Football League and Commissioner Roger Goodell over the blown call and the failure of the officials to call the penalty on behalf of themselves and all of “Who Dat Nation.”

The lawsuit by Badeaux and Lambert claims that Saints fans everywhere suffered irreversible damages and have no faith in the NFL any longer. Here’s is a portion of the section that lists the damages from the suit:

“As a direct result of the said incident, plaintiffs herein have been left bereft and with no faith in the National Football league for fairness despite the league’s own rules to correct such errors, along with emotional anguish, monetary loss for ticket holders, who purchases tickets with the presumption of integrity and fairness.”

But he’s the kicker, according to rule 17, section 2, article 3 of the NFL rulebook, the commissioner has the authority to reverse the outcome if an “extraordinary act” is deemed “extraordinarily unfair.”

If Goodell was to implement the rule, the outcome would be reversed and the game would be rescheduled to be played from the point of the “act” or from the very beginning.

The rule has never been used, so it’s highly unlikely it will be in this case. However, the Louisiana attorney puts it in simple terms that are almost too simple to understand:

After the Los Angeles Rams opened as a 1-point favorite for the Super Bowl LIII point spread, the betting line swung by 3.5 points for the New England Patriots within a couple hours, making them a 2.5-point favorite—a margin they’ve now held for a week and a half.

The money line also now favors the Patriots, who now need a $138 bet to win $100 if they take home the Lombardi Trophy outright, while the Rams only need $100 to win $118.

The initial over/under of 58 total points has seen betting action lower it slightly to 56.5 but is currently receiving an even amount of wagers.

The coin toss is as popular as ever and this year, it seems as though most bettors believe “tails always fails.” Additionally, the possibility of the Super Bowl going to overtime or having a safety scored makes Mason a bit nervous—even if both are unlikely to happen.

“The game going to OT is going to be its annual sweat with 95% of bettors on Yes,” said Mason. “The same can be said for a Safety with 96% on Yes. Both opened at +850 and have been bet down to +800.”

He added: “As always, the coin toss is getting a ton of bets, with 55% of bettors on Heads,” said Mason.
